    Leaking cold water tank

Looked in the airing cupbard today and notice towels wer wet. On closer examination I noticed a small drip of water from the underside of the cold water tank at the top of the airing cupbard. I'm not sure if the water is originating from where a pipe comes from the bottom the the tank or from...

    Whining Boiler

My boiler has just started making a high pitch whining, squeeching noise! The boiler is a Glowworm Fanned Flue model, so I was wondering if the noise is coming from the fan bearings? It certainly doesn't sound like any noise I've heard before from a boiler!

    Seatbelts on 1996 Corsa

Has anyone had to replace the seatbelts on a 1996(N) Corsa? The drivers side belt on my wife's Corsa has broken - the belt doesn't clip into the socket anymore. Is it a case of just replacing the top part of the socket or do you need to replace the whole pre-tensioner mechanism?

Grouting - what am I doing wrong?

I've just grouted a large area of tiling, and after a few minutes lots of little tiny holes have appeared in the grout lines! I applied the grout using a grout float and then cleaned any grout of the tiles with a damp sponge. The grout looked great for a while! Am I not forcing enough...

    Welded switch!

I'm in the middle of re-fitting our bathroom and started yesterday by removing the airing cupboard doors and frame. In the airing cupboard there was a small switch (looked like a light switch) that I hadn't really noticed before, even though we have been in the house for 12 years! I tried to...

Low Voltage Light Distribution & Fusing

I am replacing my bathroom light with 4 off low voltage spots (IP44). I have a 210W transformer that has 2 wires on the output, so I will need to add some distribution terminals to the 4 lamps. Is it preferable to add a fuse on each lamps supply or can I just connect them directly?

    tap connection sizes

I have ordered a new bath suite that comes with taps. So I'm all ready to go when it arrives I want to order some flexible tap connections but there seems to be two sizes 1/2" and 3/4". Are the bath and sink taps the same size or different and do all taps follow the same standard?

    Vinyl over floor tiles

I have a covered passageway at the side of the house, that at the moment has ceramic floor tiles. These are lethal when wet! What I would like to do is to put either vinyl tiles or a vinyl flooring down on top of these tiles. I assume I would need to cover them with something or the shape of...

    Front Door Locks

We had a new front uPVC door a while back. It has a Lockmaster lock with standard type handles on the indise and outside. What I don't like about it is that fact that when it is unlocked you can open it from the outside by just turning the handle. Is there a replacement lock/handle available...

    The Great Bathroom Re-fit

I have been persuaded by my dear wife to replace the bathroom suite and shower, completely tile the bathroom walls and fit low voltage halogen spot lights (IP44 of course!). I have done a bit of plumbing (fitted kitchen sink and plumbed in dishwasher/washing machine) and tiling in the past...

    New Bath Material

I'm looking to replace our bathroom suite and have seen suitably priced suites with steel and plastic baths. What are the pros and cons of steel against plastic baths?

    Low voltage spots in bathroom?

I'm thinking of replacing the main light in our bathroom with a number of low voltage spot lights flush mounted in the ceiling. At the moment I have a single energy saving bulb (equal. to 40W) and was wondering how many low valtage spot lights I will need to install to give an equal amount of light?

    Gas Boiler Fan

The fan on our Glowworm boiler has died. I got a local Corgi plumber to have a look and he came back with a quote of £203+VAT to fit a new fan. I've checked on the internat and the fan assy. is around £80-90. The plumber says it takes about 2 hours to fit! Looking at the boiler installation...
