Ok, so I have a result! We came to an arrangement where I have to put a swept tee in place of the hopper and vent the pipe properly (apparently this pipe does go into the sewer). If I take the bed away from the loft when he comes round to check he agrees that this can be seen as "storage"...

The loft was already done when we moved in - I think it was the previous owners. It was used as a store room rather than a bedroom, but all the wallpaper and carpet was there. All I did was put in the bathroom. John

I'm sorry, I didnt mean to tar all plumbers with the same brush! I know a lot of plumbers are good. My point is that i dont know which are good and which arent. And i thought I could do the job myself, didnt realise there was so much burocrasy in plumbing :D Anyway, your the one with a...

Has anyone got any experience of the Hillingdon building control people? Are they reasoanable, or am I going to have a lot of trouble? Please keep your fingers crossed for me, i have just had a call back and someone is coming in the morning to have a look. I might try to change the outside...

Oh no, I already rang the council first thing this morning. What permission do I need for the loft then? Are the fines bigger for planning permission then?

I'm saying that some poeple are lazy ponces on the dole. Dont know about the rest of it. I didnt put a new circuit in so I'm not breaking the law. There was a 10mm cable for the electric shower downsairs so I used that up to the loft and changed the shower downstairs for a normal one.

Thanks for all your kind advice. I think I might ring the council tomorrow and ask them. Even if i did get a £500 fine its still cheaper than chucking youre money away on a plumber who ****es in your sink, ive seen rogue traders!! Yes, i think its part p - I installed a circuit...

I cant afford to take advice! I cant believe that the pipe would fill up to the level of the toilet if there was a blockage, it would all just leak out of the drain cover! I'm not taking the ****, I just dont have the money to pay what plumbers charge! What are they, £100 an hour these...

I'm a bit worried now about this. Should I call the council and ask them for their advice, or will they just fine me? If the pipes go into the sewer below ground can I join them up without the hopper and make it sealed, would that be ok? Here is a picture of my bedroom, I just took it now...

Well I thought that would be the best idea but the bathroom is in the room on the left of the photo so i can't take the pipe down there and the drain is on the other wall. I looked at these Saniflow's, but they cost a lot, and I'm doing this on a budget. Kids are expensive things to run...

Look guys Im still not understanding what I've done wrong. I've taken a pipe out of the wall into the main pipe which goes down underground into the sewers. All my problem is that I dont think the hopper is big enogh? I ran the pipe in plastic from the toilet outside, I asked in Wickes and...

Ok seeing as you seem to be confused I took a photo when I got home from work. Sorry the photo isnt very good, but I took it with my phone and it was getting dark :D You can see the hopper at the top, and where I put the pipe into it. The pipe comes through the ceiling into a cupboard in...

Yes thats what Ive got, but mine looks smaller than that and its made of metal. Is this one from Screwfix bigger than the old ones? How would the water from the sewer ever get as high as the toilet, when it gets above ground level wont it leak out everywhere rather gan go up a small pipe?

Maybe I am getting confused with these technical terms, I thought it was a hopper. The pipe goes into a box that looks like a flower tub on the wall below the window, that carries the outgoing water straight into the sewer. Thanks John

Hello I have recently installed a toilet and sink in the corner of my main bedroom. There is no problem with the incoming water, I have fitted isolating valves by the taps and there is no leaks where I have joined the water in the loft. My problem is the water going out of the toilet...
