    Many thanks both fido and big-all - I thought the tape would protect in some way - thinking that the 'skin' had been damaged somehow but I'm sure I don't understand the principle of how a microwave is dangerous. Is the only danger provided by the door seal being damaged then? I see your point...

    Microwave - safe to use?

    Anyone know whether a scratch - about 2"- on the floor of a microwave (caused by a friend's too-enthusiastic cleaning with a brillo!) and now covered with white tape would make the microwave less than safe to use? I've asked several helplines but none will tell me.

    Which is more reliable? Does anyone know the old Hoover Classica AC158 and whether this is better than a newer secondhand option Philco Ecotronic Softline WM 2001? Any experience of either of these? Advice much appreciated! Many thanks.
