Thanks Breezer for your speedy response. Can you fix the Tacho then without replacing the mortor? He said that you couldn't and that I would need a new motor, which wouldn't be worth it (even though my mahcine is only 4 years old) Unfortantley the engineer is my Dads friend!

Yeah, that sounds about right, he said before he left that it would be better getting another machine than having a new motor, because you can't just fix the 'taco' whatever that is. The noises the machine is making now it's been 'fixed' I have never heard before, it sounds like it is taking...
