    random mcb trips

Hi folks Wonder if anybody can help shed some light on a little problem I'm having? House built mid 1980s, consumer unit replaced about 3 years ago. Upstairs lighting circuit supports only 7 lamps, therefore worst case even if these were all 60w which they're not, then we'd be drawing less...

    radial for upstairs lighting

I was going to reroute the lighting circuit in the loft to fit in around some other projects. I can only find one line in to the loft and only one line out to the Consumer unit. I was quite surprised to find it was a radial. The house was build in the mid 1980's. Would i be right in...

    electrical training

I keep seeing adverts in the back of the paper advertising courses to become and electrician or a plumber. Anybody have any opinions or experience of these? Are they any different/better/worse than city and guilds at local college?

    Another cable routing question.

I've just chased out the plasterboard wall and I've got my conduit but do I need to clip the 2.5 mm T&E to the wall as well? The run is only about a meter and a half and runs from a socket to a FCU in the loft. To clip or not to clip and if to clip, how often to clip? Cheers in advance guys.

What's up with the kitchen extractor?

Apply a bit of logic and a bit of reason and you can usually come up with an answer, however, I'm really struggling with this one. We had a new kitchen fitted in September last year and as part of what they did, we were told our consumer unit (original from mid 80's) was U/S and a new unit...

    PVC Channel

So, leading on from my earlier question where I learned that I can't use the cavity between breeze block and brickwork, I'm now going to chase them into the plasterboard. I've got four lengths of 2.5mm T&E which should happily fit in the 150 mm vertical safe zone where the two exterior walls...

    Cable routing again

My exterior walls are the common plaster on breeze block, then a void and then brickwork exterior. My question is, do I have to recess into the plaster or can I go through the breeze block, up the void and back through the breeze block in the loft? I know it sounds like more work but I really...

    2.5 mm radial!!!!!

Hi, Just wondering if anyone would like to offer any thoughts on my situation. We've had our boiler moved up into the loft. The old boiler and water meter have been removed. The new boiler is supplied by the old water heater radial which is only 2.5mm. Now for the 5 Amps needed for the...

    closing the ring

If the ring should close at the same place in the consumer unit, does it have to go all the way back to the consumer unti to terminate or can it joint back anywhere so long as all the sockets are inside the loop? I'm asking as we had a new boiler fitted and the power is supplied of the old...
