    30mA or 100mA RCD

Only five lighting points - so all on one circuit - it is a small flat. Thanks that's just what I needed - having identified a potential issue - I'm now liable if I choose to ignore it. I'll get the sparks to change it to two 30mA RCD's in the tails after the Henley blocks - cheaper than...

    30mA or 100mA RCD

As said before its a small one bed flat so no great problems with "falling down dark stairs" if the single RCD trips. I presume the sparks could put a standalone RCD in the tails to each CU - at present its in the tails between the meter and the Henley block. A cheaper option than new CU's...

    30mA or 100mA RCD

Town centre location - so always been TNCS - no sign of any earth stakes. Ground floor flat - no thatched roof! No RCD's within CU's An old 30mA RCD provided as standalone alongside old CU with the radial circuit labelled jacuzzi bath run through it. Old jacuzzi bath removed by...

    30mA or 100mA RCD

Just bought a small one bed flat to let out - electrics need some work - but appears to be mainly cosmetic flat about 20 years old; two CU's with BS3871 MCB's. TNCS supply Ze 0.17 all Zs readings well within limits. I'm puzzled why there is a newish Wylex standalone 100mA RCD in the tails...

    Shower Isolation

Assume 10.5kW at 230volts = 45.6Amps - according to Table 4D5 in BS7671 6mm2 cable will take 47 amps when clipped direct so 6mm2 may be OK subject to other factors being OK. Check manufacturers instructions - they nearly always require RCD protection and separate double pole isolator.

    Halers LED downlighters

Ignore BAS and his obsessions with downlighters. Haler H2's are very good but I'd be struggling to install four for £220. Could also try the JCC LED7W - slightly brighter but need a bigger cut out and the connection plate is fixed whereas its hinged on the Halers - makes it easier to push in...

    shower cable burning

Your 9kW shower draws 39A and a 6mm cable will at best only be rated at 47A. If the cable goes through any insulation or studwork then its rating will come down to as little as 23A. You need a qualified electrician who can do the necessary remedial works and notify the works under Part P...

17th edition exam is next saturday

Ever thought of using Google? - you should find plenty. Mind you if you turn up you pass - the pass rate is scandalously low.

    Kitchen Downlighters

Quite agree - far too many crap downlighters, transformers and lamps sold. Did my bathroom 12 years ago yet to change a 12v 20W lamp. Kitchen down 10 years ago only changed one 20W lamp. Go for Halers EVOLED 8W downlighters - 7 year warranty 50,000 hours life - excellent bit of kit - two...

    bahco tools

Great screwdrivers but noticed the other day that some of their pliers are made in Vietnam. Doesnt exactly inspire confidence - the natives are known more for cannabis farms round here than quality steel.

Can someone tell me how to fit these lights?

If you are for real the time you have spent asking questions and trying to make yourself believe that you are competent should have been spent employing the services of an electrician. It is for your own good that I'm not going to give any advice I see too many near disasters; severely...

Anyone done the BOHS p402 asbestos proficiency course

Bit difficult to answer - if you know the subject you'll not find it a problem but as with any other exam go in with average knowledge and you'll be struggling in some areas.

    bathroom downlighters

When you consult BCO you might like to think where your appliances are; how you want them lit; what type of lamp you will have in your downlights; what wattage lamp you will have. The BCo may have an answer. If you can tell you local electrician what you want then he/she will know the answer...

    Replacing an Electric Shower

If in a hard water area - you'll do well to get more than two years out of an electric shower. If you must use a shed then use Wickes - their own brand Aquatronic showers are just badged up Tritons. Never had any problems with Tritons but I avoid B&Q own brand Gainsboroughs and any other...

Some London Councils are over £350 - rip off - they never visit or test - just blatant money grabbing.

    Night school it is then........

Did my 2391 on a four day course for almost £600. Big rip-off as three days spent going through past papers. One day on more general stuff but no teaching or even revision of testing and no practical work at all. We were told if you wanted that you should have done the 2392 - the easier exam...

    MK remote control switch

MK Echo switches - not cheap about £80 for switch and same for receiver but cheaper than a plasterer. Used indoors with receiver hidden in ceiling void. Have used EasySwitch externally to switch garage lighting from the house about 150 foot away. Many others avaialble.

    2391 Practical Exam!

Time to bow to others expert knowledge. My three local trainers will not put you through the practical unless you have passed the theory - I assumed it was a C&G requirement.

    Outdoor socket advice

Morg I see nothing insulting about my posts - neither have the mods or else I'm sure they would have deleted them, sought to ban me or closed the thread. I have just asked if you were going to test. I haven't "banged on about my test meter" - if you had read my posts you would see that I...

    2391 Practical Exam!

You need to know the tests well before the practical exam. I'm surprised you'd be told what to test. You need to know and demonstarte clearly the principles and practice of safe isolation with the 3P DB. Also how to test starters, motors, contactors, MICC, two way switching, intermediate...
