Are MVHR's healthy, can mould/bacteria get into the pipes?

18 months ago we moved to a newi(ish)-build flat with a very oversized noisy Mr BOX MVHR. (Mechanical Ventilation Unit with Heat Recovery) http://nuaire.info/IandM/671588.pdf My partner has worries that they are not that healthy as they suck up moist air (and all the other 'particles' that come...

Bed slats cutting into new mattress

Thanks for the reply, Can you give a bit more info here though. My bed has slats which are under tension and bend in an upwards curve, but if I replaced with flat chipboard I feel that it would break under the weight (combined mattress, me and partner is approx 200kg. Or is this an unnecessary...

Bed slats cutting into new mattress

because they indicate that the fabric is getting extra pressure and will wear away. Spending nearly a grand on a mattress I'd rather it last a long time. or if I need to return it, they won't have an issue with the marks

Bed slats cutting into new mattress

I've got a new mattress, and after 1 month I went to turn it over and our slats are really making bad marks on it which is a worry. Any suggestions of what (or what not) to use to cover the slats We have this for 100 day trial and don't want to ruin it just in case thanks in advance

What's this sound from my Tumble dryer?

I've not used the tumble dryer on our combi before (we only moved here a year ago) Finally needed it tonight and there's an occasional sound (every 15 seconds or so). Sounds like some kind of pump/suction sound that lasts for 1/2 a second is this normal? Should I be worried? Indesit IWDD7143...

Any tips to add silicone to this awkwardly placed splashback?

I've just installed a splashback by the taps. I need to add silicone around all the edges, but I'm needing some tips as the corners are a bit awkward as the cupboards are in the way and I'd like to not make a right balls up of it. Any suggestions to reduce the impending mess I may create? Pics...

Flooring difference of 20mm - Suggestions for the transition?

Ahh yeah an old post, and we've moved home since :) Sadly no pics But in the end I used a wide threshold, 50mm wide and it worked. It was relatively steepish, but not too much overall.

How to attach a fence post to metal railing (for a sun shade)?

The lease was a good thought, but, yes, it is all ok. The handrail is round and 5cm across. Hopfully the attached pics in the 1st post gives a better idea of the area. Decking is wooden decking attached to wooden joists. Would love to hear of any suggestions. Thanks in advance

How to attach a fence post to metal railing (for a sun shade)?

We have a SW facing 6th floor balcony and it's a massive sun trap and we want to come up with a DIY solution to add some shade somehow. The shade/material will have to be removable as it would get windy, so it would be fabric attached by carabiners. Here is an example of what I am kind of...

    Should this wire be loose/exposed?

Nope not tape. Just the brown wire covering has been forced backwards hence the crinkles. Thanks for the reply and putting my mind at ease. Will tidy and place it back in

    Should this wire be loose/exposed?

I am having a look at the electrics in the flat. Undid the switch for the cooker hob mains and have noticed a brown cable is free floating. Should it go in the spare hole? I'm certain it should but thought I'd check with you pros first. (It may have come undone whilst investigating.. and yes...

How to remove this electric hob?

Maybe we are being dumb here, but we're also not wanting to force it too much. How do we lift out this electric hob as we want to look underneath as we are planning on replacing it with an induction hob It has a little bit of movement side to side but we can probably only lift it up. 5mm...

Only top of radiator gets hot

Me again. finally had a chance to do testing. With all rads off, the dodgy rad was slow as hell to warm up. But I then went and did what Terryplumb mentioned, took the TRV off and noted the tiny metal spike didn't depress easily. Gave it a bit of effort and it sprung into place. Seems that it...

Only top of radiator gets hot

Sorry, I missed out those answers. Apologies. We actually have no boiler. Our flat is a nice new(ish) build and has centralised hotwater/heating/boilers that is piped in and is metered. (theres a building down the road that pipes it over the estate) There are two inlets for the house, hot water...

Only top of radiator gets hot

Regarding the guy who installed our new radiator, is this something he should have checked before signing off? Something I should go back to him with? -new rad works fine we are over two floors (in a block of flats 5 high) 1 new rad upstairs 1 rad upstairs turned off (as behind a big book case)...
