    maintenance of electric showers.

In one of my college assignments i have been asked to write a maintenance schedule for an electric shower. My plumbing books aren't very helpful and just write about checking o-rings and descaling the "working parts of the shower". How often do you think these should be done and are there any...

    Pipe freezing machines

One thing that puzzles me about using pipe freezing machines is what stops the pipe from rupturing in the same way that pipes can rupture when exposed to outside cold temperatures? Anyone know?

    smelly toilet

my friend has a toilet room which has a big drain hole and drain cover in the floor (its big enough for me to get into it!). She had a blocked drain a while ago and the plumber found that the drain cover had been cemented down. He chipped away the cement, opened the drain hole cover (I can't...

    stiff hot water valve

I want to change a washer on someone's hot water tap but the stopcock between the cistern and the hot water cylinder is too stiff to turn off by hand. If I put a screwdriver in the stopcock wheel to get more leverage I'm scared that I'll deform the copper pipes. Any tips on what I can do apart...

    plumber's fear

basic question about boliers and water supply

Do you have to turn off a boiler when you turn off the mains water stopcock to do basic things like changing the washer on an upstairs bath tap and running off the water in the basin below to empty the water from the pipe? If you leave the bolier on isn't there a danger that the boiler will...

My neighbour lives in a flat with a cistern for the hot water and mains cold water. She doesn't have a boiler. She has an electric shower supplied by a cold water pipe but is unhappy with the water pressure. If a pump was fitted to the cold water connection to the shower would that increase the...

Does anyone know what people who aren't CORGI registered allowed to do as far as repairing boilers is concerned? tool for wingnut taps

I've had no success trying to turn a wingnut on the right under side of a close-coupled WC to separate the pan and cistern. There's no room for a spanner without cracking the pan (which i've already done). There isn't really any room to fit anything on the other side of the wingnut against the...

    airlock in hot water taps

Hi, A very poor flow of water is coming out of my mum's bath hot water tap. The basin hot water tap is working OK. I understand that I could attach a hose from the cold mains tap to the bath hot water tap to push a possible airbubble out of the vent pipe, but in my plumbing textbook (Plumbing...
