    slate tiles on walls

    I'm building a fireplace/hearth using 30cm slate tiles. I have cemented them to the base no problem but now I want to put them on the walls on the inside of the chimney breast. Can I fix them to the wall using mortar of should I be using an adhesive?

    I was just in the process of tiling my bathroom floor when I noticed the adhesive said unsuitable for use on wood,among other things. Is there a special tile adhesive available for this?
