2 TP submains fed from a single switchfuse.

Thanks for your input b-a-s. The switchfuse is a considerably sized Crabtree 200A unit, (hence my issue with space) fitted with 100A fuses, plenty of room in the splitter box above, bolted connections so I'll be dusting my big crimpers off next week for sure! Aside from any discrimination issues...

2 TP submains fed from a single switchfuse.

Could do with opinions from the pros on this one. DNO supply 200A TP+N (TNCS) feeds: 100A Three Phase switchfuse feeds: Existing Main DB. I intend to use the same switchfuse to feed a new DB in the workshop, ideally I would fit an additional switchfuse but there isn't room, also considering...

Glue for carpet tiles on concrete floor?

Carpet Tile Tackifier, applied by brush or roller, lay tiles after 10-15 minutes or so. A lot cheaper and better than spray adhesive!

    DALI single room dimming

Looks like a bit of a nightmare! After some research is seems the Triodonic drivers can be dimmed using what they call 'switch-dim' so all I have to do is connect N to D1 and a switched live to D2. A retractive push-to-make switch then makes all the dimming happen. Having read up on DALI...

    DALI single room dimming

Evening all, I've been called in at short notice to a job where the LED panels are required to be dimmable, the Triodonic drivers are DALI dimmable but the installer has installed standard dimmers on the switch-drop. I know this is wrong, the supplier has spoken to the manufacturer and has...

    Attaching light to 'dodgy' ceiling

You could go retro with one of those great big massive plaster ceiling rose things. Would cover enough to get a 3"x2" noggin between the joists :)

    Replacing old Mk Cooker Switch

I'd say that thats GET (Schnieder Electric) judging by the style of the switches.

Metal Light Switch - Metal Back Box earth cable

If your sticking with the same boxes you'll need to have a flylead between the switch and the back box, notice the tabs on that box are plastic. 1.5mm green&yellow 'conduit singles' should be fine.

Cabling inside fluorescent cat2 fittings. PICS

Seems to have a similar effect on some cheaper brands of starter. Don't you just hate it when they turn to dust in your hands?

LED Downlights flickering, low PFC, solutions?

Yep, I know. The MI cable between the ryefield (service fuses) and the flat's meter box is apparently owned by the residents committee. Even if it was (or should be) DNO responsibility, nothing will ever come of any complaint, given my experience. Therefore, what can be fitted to mitigate...

Wired Alarm - any reason not go with Veritas?

I've never had a good experience with domestic Texecom panels! But maybe thats just me. I tend to stick with Honeywell Galaxy G2 panels but add the Cooper SD1 where basic autodialling is required. Run 4-core cabling from each detector to the panel, except for the bell box which requires 5...

LED Downlights flickering, low PFC, solutions?

Evening all! Have installed some very fancy LED downlights, controlled by dimmers but they flicker intermittently. Lets cut a long story short here, the reason for this flicker is down to loads on the general electrical system (in the property and on the same TX) dipping the voltage...

    neutral stuck to insulation

Once bitten twice shy, I always try a bit from the end of the roll before first fixing. If its unstrippable BASEC recommend the cable be returned to place of purchase.

Swap Single Pole sockets for Double pole Sockets

I'd stay clear of B&Q (Volex) sockets, last ones I was asked to fit the wires kept on falling out of the terminals.

    CCTV ranges

For something mid-range why not consider the Honeywell HRG series DVR, fitted quite a few of these (the first one ever in the Birmingham area I'm told) this year and they are very good for the money. Easy setup and their remote apps are quite good too. Problem is you'll struggle to get one...

    Fluorescent lights

Nobody else considered that it might be the fact that LAP is right down the bottom end of the spectrum as far as quality is concerned? Who makes the HF Ballast in these units?

How old do the electrics in this house look?

Current Wylex (NSX?) MCB's will still fit quite happily into that board, not too sure if I'd want to try fitting an RCBO in there tho!

    Downlighters - must be fireproof?

My view regarding fire rated down lights is that surely because I am damaging the fire withstanding properties of the plasterboard ceiling, regardless of whether it is designed as such then steps should be taken to repair it to its previous standard of fire resistivity I'm sure Building Control...
