    Where can I get a >40 Amp PLUG-IN MCB

Ban, I haven't laughed so much in a long time ! Some people just don't get it that when you **** around with electrics invariably something bad will eventually happen...... nice touch !!!!!

    Correct MCB/RCBO sizing

not an adequate sizing for a power circuit minimum requirement is 2.5mm sq would only be suitable for a lighting circuit

    Integrated Appliances

Go for option A assuming the socket forms part of you kitchen ring. No real reason to add a FCU for the operation of an intergrated appliance. I take it the appliances are vented correctly.

    Installing an electric oven

jamz There must be a fault finding guide with the oven docs try having a look to see if there is anything that seems relevant. Maybe there is a set-up procedure that you need to follow..... I know with my oven that if the supply is interupted ( power-cut ) then you have to reset the clock...

Fitting RCB/mini consumer unit in Garage.

diydunce I have read your last post and am not sure where you have found the CU that you intend on using, if there is a link I wouldn't mind taking a look ? I have never seen a 25A RCD although I am prepared to be proved incorrect. As for your cable runs the 2.5mmsq runs for the socket...

Fitting RCB/mini consumer unit in Garage.

diydunce Plug is right the fact you mention it's a garage to office conversion metal clad components are no longer required incidently they provide mechanical damage protection ( heavy blows from machinery/tools) I think 4mmsq T & E would be ok for the run from Main to Garage CU with a 32A...

Fitting RCB/mini consumer unit in Garage.

Ban Quote: The cable run from the consumer unit to the garage is probably about 15-20metes. If I did want a RING circuit in the Garage would I just connect the cable in a RING to/from the 15Amp MCB in the garage. Yes. Only if you replace the MCB to one rated at 32A diydunce...

    Question for all...COSTS

I fitted a wylex insulated 11 way board incorporating a 32A 30m/A RCD and 2x32A 3X6A 2X20A with a 100A DP main switch and it worked out about £100.00 customer balked at the cost of an MK board and as he was paying ...... customer always right ! I think I know you view on Wylex but I have...

    Installing an electric oven

RED = LIVE BLACK = NEUTRAL However the fact you are not sure would worry me a tad! Are you sure you are able to carry out this job ? Have you turned the power off at the mains - we don't want a Don King look for the w/e do we ?

    Outbuilding Power

b Replace with SWA (my preferred option although harder work and more costly). In which case is the following a suitable plan of gear? House CU ; 30A MCB in CU with RCD 6mm T&E cable to junction box nearby where 6mm SWA terminated ***underground to garage*** Metal junction box 6mm T&E...

    Outbuilding Power

Try this link here http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CMM2N.html As you are using SWA you would not need to bury it in conduit as mechanical protection is already catered for. Mount the CU on MDF which has reasonable fire retardent properties, although mounting direct to the wall is...

Cable length to supply outside socket (confirmation please)

markf The simple answer is Yes as to recommended technique. The swa strands provide an EARTH FAULT path and should therefore be connected at both ends of the run to the CU and the 1st socket outlet, How did the reg spark do this at the garage CU ?

    shower extractor fan

I'm with Breezer on this. Assuming the guy is not so insecure as to shower in the dark why can the live feed not be taken from the lighting circuit ? Thus saving the additional work in terms of wiring in a FCU ....

Cable length to supply outside socket (confirmation please)

SWA does not come supplied with an Earth core as the SWA strands provide an earth fault path when correctly terminated, having said that why not use 3-core and dedicate the YELLOW core as an earth (correctly indicated with tape or sheath) How proficient are you with SWA termination ? I would go...

    Dimmer switches

lou123 FWL Wrote Bear in mind that there will also be a green/yellow sleeved conductor in the cable, this will be the Earth connection, so if this is the third cable you speak of, it attaches to the back-box of the switch, if the dimmer switch is metal, a link must be made from the...

    LV downlighters

OK so as they are low voltage do they have individual transformers ? Or is there a multi-way transformer ? Are you replacing an existing lighting circuit ? If so what do you have in place ?

    LV downlighters

Can you give a bit more info, i.e. what type of lighting arrangement you are intending to install, this will help explain how to wire them up. Also cable size should be either 1.0mmsq twin & earth or 1.5mmsq twin & earth. Do you have LV transformers ?
