Oh please help me sort out the shower (fleeced again?)

When I say 'he didn't' replace the cylinder I mean he did replace it, just not apparently for a bigger one. The water is hotter so would have been less of an issue if the shower could be used. But given people are saying the dribble we have could be normal (ie NOT an installation error), if...

Oh please help me sort out the shower (fleeced again?)

Sorry guys, I can see I've not been clear. Some history... I posted months ago asking for advice on updating our boiler: we have an old (1950s) one-pipe system with commercial size steel pipes (about 2inches diameter). With lovely school radiators. We did NOT want to strip all this out...

Oh please help me sort out the shower (fleeced again?)

He might have done: he did the quote though and told me that was what it would cost. I didn't ask him to do any extras. I did realise when he stayed all week, it would have been more labour than he quoted for.... I'm not wanting to sound bitter about him: the heating job seems fantastic...

Oh please help me sort out the shower (fleeced again?)

No, he had 3 grand for fitting a new boiler, new tanks in the loft, new cylinder and shower, and 3 ays labour that turned into 5! I did the thing suggested about lowering to bath tap level... I'll ask him about a fault tomorrow.

Oh please help me sort out the shower (fleeced again?)

Am I just getting bad plumbers (daft woman emoticon) or am I just stupid? After days, nay, years of your experience and time on here sorting out what to do with my vented, one-pipe system, I thought I found a good un. New boiler in, house toasty, everything fine. But the new shower he...

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

PS space the gas, love the pic Who'd have thought you'd have a van like that?

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

Have calmed down a bit. Would still be grateful for any further advice about how we could find out what the problem is before speaking to the fitter tomorrow. Thanks

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

Thanks spacethegas, I just don't know what to say to him to be honest. I'm posting on here because I'm not a DIYer but I've had some brilliant advice from people (professional and amateur) who do know what they're talking about. I really thought I had a good guy... :( Me and the husband...

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

jesus simond! I've just done my experiment again and in 30 seconds (with head at tap level and the shower tube thingy disconnected from the holder so it goes no higher than the bath taps) I get only 1300 mls exactly (I did it twice) and at 33 degrees (while on the 38 degree setting). I know...

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

Thanks! I thought it was too small... oh bugger. He seems to have done a decent job with the boiler (but only based on the fact that everything is working) What do I do now? I've already given him the cheque. I asked him to put a bigger cylinder in, and he hasn't. Can I ask him to do...

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

I dunno which shower fitting it is! I know they went to get a mixer valve and head specifically for a low pressure system. It's a bar valve with a limiter on the temperature bit. Sounds like an additional pump is the way to go? My only worry is, although I asked the fitter to...

Anyone got any ideas why my shower pressure is rubbish?

I posted this separately in another message so apologies for cross-posting (just realised my title wasn't pulling in any answers  ) I've just had a new mixer shower fitted. In theory (according to my installer) it is for low pressure systems (we have a vented system with conventional...

Hey, Doitall, I've got a working boiler and hot rads but...

Thanks for your reply. They installed one mixer shower; output was rubbish. They went hmmm, said it mustn't be suitable for low pressure systems, went off an bought another one. To be honest, I can see no difference between this and the last. They explained it by telling me the bath taps...

Hey, Doitall, I've got a working boiler and hot rads but...

...what's wrong with my shower?! I finally found a bloke with a bag of spanners  who put in a Worcester conventional boiler (Greenstar 30 summat) and a new cylinder. ALL my rads are lovely and hot and the new thermostat actually works! OK it still takes 30 mins to actually heat...

Doitall and co, it's the 'one pipe' system lady (please?)

guys guys guys... I'm losing faith now... You both sound like you know exactly what you're talking about. Seriously, am I just being mad to want to maintain the old system? Would we be better to bite the bullet and rip it all out and install something shiny and new? I love the pipes and...

Doitall and co, it's the 'one pipe' system lady (please?)

Thanks doitall, DP and dangermouse et al Yes. the problem is not so much the system or particularl boiler (I now kind of  understand the physics of what we need: non-pressurised system cos the joints might leak; enough 'oomph' from the water heating to push the furthest radiator to...

Doitall and co, it's the 'one pipe' system lady (please?)

PS Are they doing this because they don't know any better? Or because they know they will get half way through, tell us 'oh oh, it doesn't work' and then be able to charge us twice as much again to rip all the pipes out after all? Or am I just being cynical?

Doitall and co, it's the 'one pipe' system lady (please?)

See, that is what I thought! Thanks. Back to the drawing board. Still trying to find local installers for old-fashioned boilers.

One pipe system, industrial style pipes: boiler exploded...

Thanks for all your replies. The guy we just had in to have a look when it died has now quoted. I've posted the suggested boiler on another thread and would be very grateful for your views if you have time? He suggested Vaillant Ecotec Pro Combi 28he... I am still worried as many have...

Doitall and co, it's the 'one pipe' system lady (please?)

Hi again, OK the latest guy has given an acceptable quote but is suggesting he fits a Valiant (Vaillant?) Ecotec Pro Combi 28he to our existing pipes... I'd really like to know if you think this would work or is a mad idea given the pipes, radiators etc that I outlined to you previously...
