The problem turned out to be a 4 in piece of metal/wire that had lodged itself across the impeller of the pump. Easily fixed, but where did it come from???

The above Hotpoint has recently stopped draining water during the cycle. Am suspicious of broken water pump or blocked filter/outlet hose. Next step is to open up the machine and have a look, but thought I'd post to see if anyone has successfully remedied similar problem. Recently moved to...
