Hoping someone can help with this.
The cable on my mum-in-laws electric reclining chair has gotten squashed and damaged under the chair over time as the chair has been shunted around her room in her sheltered flat. The copper strands are almost visible so i have taken the cable away so she cant use it.
Can anyone advise where i can start looking for a new one?
The chair is powered from a standard 13a plug & socket into a transformer and there is another "free" cable that plugs into the transformer and the other end plugs into the connection under the chair, this is cable that needs replacing but it`s a type i have not seen before. It has male and female moulded connectors at opposite ends, the male has two pins of 1 x flat & 1 x round with the female being a socket type of the same sizes.
Sorry this is dragging on a bit but i dont know how else to describe the thing.
The transformer label has a lot of tech stuff on it (german & english) and the only info i recognise from it is 240v 50hz and Sek.24v with the a/c squiggly line after. I take it this means it is 24v output.?
If anyboby can help I will gladly supply more info from the label.
I am ok with basic DIY electrics and nowadays the little electrical shop on the corner in every town that could help with these things is long gone so her i am.
Grateful for any help.
Thanks
Mike

A picture of the small plug would help.
Alternatively take it to somewhere like maplins and they may know the name of the plug/socket.

1 flat pin, 1 round pin? sounds like an old speaker plug we used to have on the stereo..

without an approximate size and a sketch / photo it's almost impossible to help you..
heck even a make of chair would help.
most likely you'll have to contact the chair maker for a replacement cable.

That one saves you having to buy a stair lift as well!

It will get you upstairs before you forget why you are going up there.

Thanks for the replies folks and yes the male connector is very much like the type used for stereo speakers years ago. I had them on my Dynatron (theres a name from the past)
Sorry the pic isnt that good but if it helps the moulding at each end of the cable is 30mm long (plus pins at male end)
We live in west cornwall and our nearest Maplins is Plymouth some 75 miles away.
The chair is about 9 years old. Been in touch with the company whos label is on the unit and waiting for their response.

I can't recall the make now, but I remember looking at one of these for somebody a couple of years ago, and on that it was certainly just a regular 2-pin DIN plug.

Here you go, from Maplins.

click me

They are only 89p each plus £3 shipping (cheaper than a 150 mile round trip).

You'll need a soldering iron though.

Does DIN 41529 permit the use of those connectors for this application?

What's the rated output of the transformer?

Is the chair CE marked?
