I HAVE A 3 GANG DIMMER SWITCH.
1ST GANG RUNS TWO RECESSED LIGHTS WORKING FINE
2ND GANG RUNS TWO RECESSED LIGHTS WORKING FINE
3RD GANG RUNS FOUR RECESSED LIGHTS (NOT WORKING)

ALL BULBS ARE WITHIN TOLERANCE

ON OPENING UP THE SWITCH THE WIRING APPEARS FINE FOR THE FIRST TWO BUT I HAVE A LOOSE BLACK WIRE NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING. HAS THIS COME LOOSE AND WHERE SHOULD IT BE.

PLEASE remove your caps lock- it comes across as you SHOUTING.

Would you offering further details on the wiring setup, if done to the common method you will have 1 cable for each of the 3 dimmer positions.

Since it's likely that the same person wired the whole unit, I'd suggest you just copy what has been done, for positions 1 and 2.

Common for one wire and L1 for the other, earth core not terminated unless the back box has a brass block termination point near the back of the box.
