45 degree angle on RSJ

I'm having a extension done and have had 2 RSJ put in , the builder has put a 45 degree angle in one end as he said he could not get it in with out as the end roof rafter of the extension will make it difficult .
Is this normal ? My thoughts are it wil weaken the beam at that end .
