Hi, hope you guys had a good Christmas. we r looking to replace our existing prefabricated garage which is quite bad shape and would cost quite a lot to fix properly. I know people don't generally prefer Prefabricated but my budget won't stretch to build a brick or block one (am not too good with diy so can't do it myself to make it cheaper). I was thinking about getting a new one.

Mostly it will be used doe general storage (we need plenty of that in our house)...

Can someone please advise what brand to go for. There are I think two major national chains which do garages but I don't know if one is better than the other. Also what should I look out for when choosing a good one.

Also if someone can kindly advice, these garages are sold on million different "add ons" which are all made out to be great and needed but I am not fully sure..

Thanks for your help.

I have built two prefab garages (one second hand and it lasted for more then 25 years in my hands), and if done properly there is no problem with water leaking under the walls along the floor.
The main problem is condensation. The next job before we moved was to fix the garage, but I never really sorted a trivial point, lining the wall with foam and boarding is easy, doing the ceiling is fiddley - lots of foam was going to be used to seal around where the metal trusses exited through the new ceiling. The problem that stumped me was sealing the tops of the wall panels against the corrugated asbestos roof. As far as could see, all the available foam filler strips were of the wrong pitch and height. So what to use? I thought the best way would be to carefully cut up a board to the correct corrugation shape and some how temporarily fix it against the outside wall against the roof, then render up the gap. Very tedious, especially as one side of it was against the neighbours hedge.
The difference in cost between new and refurbishing the old is likely to be £2K.

Thanks for your reply. Any tips or advice on how to prevent water leakage and condensation. I guess condensation maybe manageable by putting dehumidifier in few winter months but would appreciate any advice to remove either of these problems by buying a particular type of garage or any particular design items. Ta.

I think you'd be very disappointed with dehumidifier performance in winter.....great in summer though!
Condensation is a real issue though - and can largely depend on what roofing materials you choose.
John :)

Thanks. I have heard decaissant Dehumidifiers are able to work effectively down to 1deg. Anyway I understand it's better to eliminate the problem rather than trying to fix it.

Any suggestions as to which material to choose for roof? Ta
