My norton internet security subscription runs out soon. After reading posts about norton slowing down systems I am now thinking about some alternatives. I would appreciate any advice about any better options. Thanks

Just switched to Kaspersky http://www.kaspersky.com/kav6 a few weeks ago. Costs £24 and seems fine. I run it along side Zonealrm's free firewall.
Supposed to be a lot lighter than Norton on system resources.
Have used AVG before - it works but the free version wants to scan your pc everytime you start it up.

All I have read about the freebies in computer mags say the same, freebies are great but you get what you pay for. unfortunately I use Norton on my desktop but when due to renew I to will switch. Had Norton on my steam driven laptop, could not wait to get it off.

Avast is good. They do pro versions as well as the free offering, although the latter is pretty good (IMHO). F-Secure is also an excellent product. As I have said before, Norton Anti-Virus is ok. In my experience, it's the Internet security bit that seems to cause the problems, escpeially in 2007.
Found Mcafee slowed up my old laptop to a crawl, new laptop runs Norton 2007 plus systemworks and goback with no problems. Tested system with a lot of firewall and virus checking websites with 100% protection results. New laptop is Celeron based 1600 ghz nothing special but no complaints so far running AV/Firewall software.
Thanks for the help. I have removed norton and am using avast. I will keep everyone posted with any improvements
Nortons internet security suite does tend to slow things down pretty badly, shame really because their corporate AV is pretty spot on.
AVG is decent (and free) and to be honest, I'd reccomend AVG free over norton any time if it was just antivirus that was needed.
As for a personal firewall, I'd rather buy a cheapo nat router than many of the software firewalls available.

done nothing about a firewall what would anyone recomend? all this advice is appreciated as this is something I know very little about
