The machine I have takes the soap powder from the dispenser drawer but does not take the fabric softner, Any ideas

Or syphon in the drawer is clogged up. Take the drawer out, remove the syphon and clean everything thoroughly.
If still not syphoning then likely to be inlet valve failure as Breezer stated.
