Heck! I put my ASHP on 'Holiday Mode' because we were... on holiday. I put the temp on 10°C and long-pressed the suitcase icon until the display showed 'Holiday Mode'. Anyway, turns out I was charged MORE for the two weeks we were away (£39) than the following two weeks when all appliances were being used as normal (£33)! Any clues?
Thanks in advance!

Someone using your house facilities?
Maybe a man living in your loft?

! Any clues?
Not without a lot more information such as the make & model of controller, what the various settings actually do, whether 'holiday' has it's own settings independent of a temperature, where the property is, how cold it was at the time, did someone leave a window open, was it even working properly, how this amount of expenditure was obtained and so on.

Do you have a smart meter, which records your consumption minute by minute?

I could not tell you, when on holiday, what appliance is using what power. Total power used, yes, but just looked, 1745913081696.png and I can see something used 1kW at 8:32 am but not a clue what. Not even had a cup of coffee yet, and wife on holiday, and there was battery, so seems no reason for it to draw from the grid.

I would agree one would expect it to use less when not at home, I remember in the 50s/60s my dad turning off the main isolator before going on holiday, today however fridges, freezers seldom empty, so we can't turn off all, and that spike on mine could be auto defrost on one of them.

So £39 at 27p per kWh = 144 kWh or 429 watt average, that is somewhere around my background use. And no electric used for heating. And if set to 10ºC then one would expect it to work harder, my heat pump would, no way would I want my house that cold, I normally set my heat pump which only cools, to around 26ºC when I am home, and switch off completely when not at home.

The central heating, the max temperature set around 22ºC min around 15ºC, but it is so easy with the central heating to miss a thermostat, in my house four thermostats can fire my boiler, and once running, there are another 13 thermostats controlling room temperatures, flat batteries can cause me to use more oil, as the TRVs with flat batteries default open. Five are no problem, WiFi linked, can see at a glance when batteries are flat, but other five are bluetooth, and we do not tend to look at them much, as need to be local to them to read.

As @flameport points out, we have no idea how your heat pump works, but with my system, it would be easy to only turn down only one thermostat or four which can fire the boiler, so seems likely you could have the same, we don't even know if heat pump heats and cools, or is just half a system.

I think the mistake I made was trusting 'Holiday Mode'. Generally, the system has been really economical, but I usually set the temperature manually, depending on how blue my wife's toes are.
Maybe next time we go away I'll empty the freezer and shut the entire house down! Actually, it would be interesting to see if Eon Next do only charge the 51p per day for supply in that scenario!

It's a Mitsubishi Electric dual controller for water and central heating with the Ecodan system. We also have solar panels. All windows and doors were closed and nobody came or went during the two weeks.
It's a mystery!
