I have a 1860 house with the top floor partially built into the roof, the smaller atttic has been converted treviously and 2 velus put into the roof.

I want to remove the top floor walls to create one open plan bedroom suite and to move the horizontal rafters up higher into the V and leave them exposed.

then insulate and plasterboard the verticle rafters having a nice very high ceiling opening up to the V.

My builder suggested removing every second horizontal rafter in the process. this will create a better effect but I am concerned about the structure of the roof and future surveys etc...

Has anyone done this ? or any views ?

Get it checked over by a structural engineer before doing anything. If you do come to sell, his little bit of paper with the calcs on will save you an untold amount of grief (and money)
