i have just had an extension built and the new soil pipe for my ensuite runs down from first floor to garage. building control won't sign it off until the soil pipe in the garage is boxed in as it is a fire hazard. does anyone know what the building regs are regarding what sort of material i need to use to box it in? any help would be appreciated.

It needs to be encased to provide 1/2 hr fire resistance, so doubled plasterboard would meet his requirements
I would also pack the void with quilt insulation prior to cladding the framing
