fitting some new lights in a bathroom , there is no earthing at all (tt system)

I have provided main bonding , sup bonding and a temp earth spike .

British Gas who are the billing company for electricity have said they will charge to provide a PME connection.

Is this right ? can they charge to provide a safety device ?

Sadly yes they can charge for this.

You currently have a TT earth so the installation is not dangerous, and the DNO / REC / whoever are not obliged to supply you with an earth.

It's not Brit Gas charging you. They charge you for the electricity, and you have to go to them to arrange the PME conversion, but they will pass the work on to the DNO.

The DNO are responsible for the network, and will do the conversion. It usually costs round the £100 mark, though some are appreciably less and some more.
