Hi i have a internal wall - which needs removing. my uncle does strucutral calculations for a living.

he told us only a 300mm padstone for a 2.4 opening with a 7 x 5 rsj

its a foundation wall (doesnt support beams but supports a wall above)

it cant be correct - a 300mm padstone!

Small spans like that often don't need a padstone. A 7N block would probably do. Depends on loadings and masonry beneath.

If your uncle does structural calcs for a living, (and assuming there are no slip-ups in the maths) then either: 1. the wall supported by the beam must be about 100 ft high, or 2. what's left of the wall supporting the beam must be built out of plastic milk bottles.

Why not post the figures and let's have a look?

Or 3. the uncle is starving
