I am going to put a single storey flat roof extension on the rear of my house, I would like to fit my own fixed roof light using a frosted double glazed unit between the roof joists and a twinwall polycarbonate monopitched canopy on an upstand above this. Will this be acceptable or will the regs people want me to fit a factory made job? I'm certain my design will be far more thermally efficient

How efficient will your flashings be?

I would like to fit.......between the roof joists and a twinwall polycarbonate monopitched canopy on an upstand above this

You would like to fit it between the roof joists and a canopy on an upstand above....eh? I'm not getting this bit. :?

The rooflight will butt against the house wall (lead flashing into wall above)and extend forwards about 2 feet. The twinwall acts as a rain cover and further insulation above the double glazed unit. The reason the twinwall will be sitting above the roof surface (upstand) is to make waterproofing easier and also to provide a surface that someone could stand on (safety)

Forgive me but it sounds like a complete badgers arse.

And i still can't get my head around how you intend flashing the sides and bottom and how everything will look from inside. It's verging on the bizarre.

It'll look absolutely fine Noseall, The DG unit sits 4" up inside the joist and the sides beneath are plasterboard and skimmed. A ply box sits on top of the joists and projects 4" above the finished roof surface so that the EPDM roof membrane can be lapped up and glued to the sides. A 2 x 2 frame is then screwed around the top of the ply (on the outside) and the twinwall is secured to this using twinwall edge rails .....................Simples!!!!

What happens if you need to access the glass?

How do you clean out insects?

How do you clean the topside of the glass or t'uther side of the polycarb?

As i said - a badgers arse.

You unscrew the polycabb side rails, whip out the sheet and remove the bugs!
