Has anybody solved the problem of lighting the pilot light on a Johnson & Starley JB25PB mk5 hot air caravan heater? When left for a week lighting the pilot takes (what feels like) hours, it is far quicker to undo the nut that secures the pilot light tube and purge the air out then light it. Problem is the nut has now lost its corners so it’s down to pliers, but it’s getting pretty chewed up so soon it will have to be pipe grips. Manufacturers are no help. It’s not just my caravan as everyone on the site who has this heater suffers the same difficulty, is there a ‘fix’ that will help? The gas is shut off at the cylinder when the ‘van is empty.

If you have to purge the line then you have to purge the line.

Talk to a local CORGI with the required tickets - he might be able to come up with a solution for your specific site.
