Hello,
I have read all of the posts about the elements in the radiators, and am a bit confused... I had a water filled towel rail in my previous house for 5 years with an electric element, and this seemed fine, and according to the manufacturers instructions.
I was thinking about setting up a similar system with a cast iron rad, and found a company supplying the elements with the following details:
These are available in a range of wattages/lenghts. There is also a range of colours available. The elements are 240v and they can be used as a stand alone electically heated radiator, or they can be fitted as a back up into a standard system.
Electric Radiator Element 1500watt 520mm Long
•Suitable for 8½-10Litres water content or Radiator output of 900watts - 1300watts
•The bush size is ¾" BSP - the element itself is 520mm long
•This is suitable for use as a standalone electric radiator or as a back up facility for a conventional hot water system
•There are 3 heat settings and a frost setting
•We supply full instructions and locking glue
•The element is 240V and is CE Marked and comes with a Guarantee
This seems to imply that they can be water filled, and stand alone. Is this wrong?
I very nearly bought one until I came here and saw all of the horror stories.
any advice gratefully recieved, I dont want to blow up the dog....
