Ceiling rose wiring

Hi there,

I’ve got two ceiling roses in the living room with a wall switch at each end of the room. I need to wire them up but unsure of which wire goes where. The ceiling rose has three terminals (L, Loop, N).

One of the ceiling roses has two cables, one 2 core and earth and the other 3 core and earth.
The second ceiling rose has two cables, both three core and earth.

Any help much appreciated, photos attached!

Unlikely to get answers without a pic of the rear of the switch.

I don't think anyone on the forum is going to be able to help.

On the one hand there are too many wires or on the another, not enough.

You will need someone to test and determine which cables are which and do what.



It's a bit silly to remove eleven wires and not record where they went.

Is there any history ?
Has the room been converted from 1 to 2?
Is there a wall light ? Where does the brown and blue 2c&e go?

ASSUMING both lights are meant to come on together...

1st light
Both browns together in a piece of connector block, separate to the light
Both blacks to L of light
Both greys to N of light
Both earths to earth terminal

2nd light
Both browns together in a piece of connector block, separate to the light
The black to L of light
The grey and the blue to the N of light
Both earths to earth terminal

When he says a separate connector block, he means the middle ceiling rose connector, if that is what you are using. Why I don’t know....

I saw the light fitting brackets on the ceiling - but yes, substitute connector block for ceiling rose centre terminal.

I have drawn as you describe in the centre.

Would you please explain how it connects to the switches - and how it works?

I think sw idea is that the supply is at the switch.

A supply is also taken to the lights, and then off to another room via the brown blue on last light.

Not a config I was expecting, but possible.

Yes, it's blindingly obvious.

The switch is fed, live and neutral.

A 3 core+E goes from the switch to the first light.

Now this 3 core+E contains switched live to the two lights, neutral, and permanent live.

The 3 core then travels to the second light.

The switched live ends here, naturally enough.

The neutral and permanent live, however, travels to next room...

Perfectly normal way of doing things, ensures good economic use of cable as it minimises cable runs.
