i have a baxi 105 he combi boiler, although the heating is working fine, the hot water will run hot for no more than 10 seconds then goes cold.

You clearly have a bad experience/view of combis
Some are cheap crap some are excellent
I have a combi at home and it works perfectly. I have installed 100s they are not right for every situation
