Can anyone tell me the work involved in doing this. I am thinking of doing the pipework myself and leaving gas engineer to connect at boiler. I Am confident I can do it as I have done all my radiators and had a gas engineer fit the boiler ?

From what I understand you remove the hot cyclinder and connect the pipe from the top of it to the hot on boiler. I will just be running the feed. The cold strage tank in the loft you remove and join pipes together. for mains in bathroom and toilet.

    The F&E cap off.

When the cylinder is removed and the 2/3 port valves removed do I just join the flow and return together ?

    Thanks

Find an engineer that is happy to work with you and get him to talk you through the work that you can do and how to do it.

That is defo what I intend to do but just wanted to get some info first and learn.

Pretty sure I can do it if guided what to do as I have removed tanks out loft and run cold feed and hot to and fro boilers . Put radiator on and showers i etc. Just wanted to understand a system boiler as I do with a combi before I speak with some engineers.

Drain down cold water storage tank in loft and cylinder. Connect main feeding cold water storage tank to outlet from tank that is the cold feed to bathroom. Cut out cold feed to cylinder. Cut out open vent from cylinder and cut out and cap off any excess hot water pipe in airing cupboard.
Drain down heating system and cut out motorised valve(s) and connect primary flow to heating flow. Cap off cylinder return from primary return. Remove cylinder and tank in loft.
Hot water outlet from combi boiler can tee into nearest section of hot water circuit pipework. Doesn't matter where. Hang new boiler and get RGI to connect gas supply and commission. Job done. Simples.
