Hope this is the right section.

Is it safe to concrete straight over copper pipes? Or should I protect the pipes in some way?

I've fitted a new rad and the pipes run in a channel of concrete I have created so they won't be surface mounted - I was intending to backfill.

Splitting some plastic overflow pipe or similar is easier than wrapping them

Leave them room to expand and contract too. Without it it might damage the pipes/joints/concrete over time.
Denso tape has a very good rep for protecting buried pipes etc. But like Woody says slitting plastic pipe might be easier.
It's in now but did you know you can get 10mm copper pipe already jacketed in white plastic?

FWIW: You can buy ( where? ) long plastic rolls of condom like sheathing specifically for cu. pipe protection. Roll your ground work out, and then slip the condoms over them.
Denso tape, as mentioned, is the gear, but can be expensive.Denso wrap all pipe that stubs up or out, even plastic jacketed pipe - because of expansion (as mentioned).
