Converting old heating control to socket

See pic. Got an old BG heating control.

Is it possible to convert this to a standard socket?

I guess I need back box to go in there first off all (I need a back box to screw the front plate onto?)

then be able to determine which is the permanent live there.....(can see neutral and earth np)

Trouble is the hole is an non-standard size.....

Nor sure if I'd be able to get a faceplate to cover the hole?

Some where there should be an fcu with 3a fuse to turn it off.

The live is the red wire on the left.

The hole spacing is designed to fit a single socket.

Depends what you want to plug in really or just make it tidy?

That depends. If it's only a 1mm cable, it will only be able to support around 11 amps, not really adequate for a socket, if that is in a kitchen. The first things you need to do, is find out if it is live, and where it is fed from, MCB or etc.. Likely it will go into a joint-box, located in your airing cupboard, if you have one.

Test with a meter, connected between blue and each red in turn, to see if it's live, after checking the operation of the meter.

So you could fit a 10A fuse in the fcu and run almost anything on a single socket.

Don’t think there are many things that use the full 13A these days.

That depends. If it's only a 1mm cable, it will only be able to support around 11 amps,

16A if twin & earth.

OK so I'd be limited to 11A? (Not so bad because I think it only rules out a few things)
