Hello

I've recently purchased a Baumatic double oven rated at 3.95kW,the manufacturers instructions say it should be connected to a 20A supply(?).I currently have a single oven connected to a 13A fuse spur (i didnt put this in) on a 2.5mm cable about 5m run length back to consumer unit.
If I change to a proper 45A cooker switch and outlet plate and allowing for diversity,(i think this is right)

3950/230=17.2A

10+2.16(30% of 7.2)=12.16A

(rating of 2.5mm-18.5A in conduit in a wall (?))

..can I get away with not recabling (which will be a bit destructive on my kitchen) and what ampage type B breaker do i need ,16A ....?

Any sparkys give me some help on this, will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe my small amount of knowledge of this is better left stored unused in the back of my brain for fear of it being dangerous....

iirc direct burial in a normal non insulating wall is method one

i would use a 20A breaker in the CU with your existing 2.5mm cable ( i assume this cable is a dedicated cuircuit)

you will however need a DP switch and outlet plate of suitable rating

cheers plugwash,

Yes it is a dedicated circuit. Planned to use a 45A DP switch with min 3mm sep, will use a 20A breaker.

Good news for me as i didnt fancy the aggro and destruction of running a 4mm cable.

Thanks for the advice :D

Yes, DIRECT burial in plaster or the like is method 1. What about when capped?

Then it becomes method 3.

I'm a bit worried. Have you taken it to the vet yet?
