Dug up around the soil stack at the weekend to try and locate the sewer line so that I can put a new soil line into it.

When I uncovered the base of the soil stack I found a crack in the ceramic piping. Its old and oozes water whenever the toilet is flushed.

Is there a way of reparing this crack? Some sort of paste or maybe concrete compound that I can apply to the exterior of the pipe? This will be under 2 feet of solid clay so I'm not worried about the surrounding area becoming a marsh. Its a very thin crack and is odourless so the leakage isnt bad at all.

Any help appreciated.

I'd have thought that a repair would be the last thing you'd want to do. You may not be worried about a "marsh" forming but you could end up with damage to the foundations if they are close enough.

Also, whilst a temporary repair to the exterior of the pipe might be possible the crack will no doubt spread quite quickly and you would face a major drain failure.

I think a replacement would be a far better solution even if it is a pain of a job!
