As an aside you all my like to know that the guy who is the subject of this thread is now back behind bars in a normal closed prison. He asked to be put back there!

Softus, thankyou for a sensible post. You asked me this.
To which I can only say that mistakes are no doubt inevitable in any human activity, mistakes cause death on the roads every day, does that stop you driving?. Mistakes were made by going to Iraq but but people are still being killed in our names, not made the Gov pull out though. However I do believe my comments are being exagerated. Here are a couple of my early posts which were made before this thread went all offensive.
I believe I am saying that only the proven beyond doubt cases. One would hope there is now much less chance of mistakes, given the more up to date forensic and in some cases cctv evidence available. Even then I only said certain types of murders and excluded many.

At no stage have I suggested anyone be butchered by the state. for the sake of it. I mean your Sutcliffe, West, Huntley,Hindley, Brady,Krays, Neilson, Stevenson,G&J Daly etc. Proven beyond doubt cases all of them, no chance of a mistake with any off them.

If I was the parent of any of those kids I would have happy killed Hindley slowly and believe it would be a crime of passion, do you think I should face the death penalty for my crime ?

This is my last post on this thread, as it is now no more than attempted character assasination. Ban-all-sheds knows full well that none of this thread has anything whatsoever to do with my wife Julie. Despite her protestations he has still called her a liar. This has now reached the point where Julie has left the forum.

How anyone claiming to be civilised can attempt to get at a fellow member, through their wife or family, is beyond me. It is as low as one can get. Everything is here for all to read, I am not backing out of a debate, but I am not prepared to stoop down in the gutter and join BAS.

I HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN ON ANY FORUM WHERE THE MEMBERS ABUSE EACH OTHERS SPOUSES TO TRY TO WIN. THESE ARE NOT THE ACTIONS OF A HUMANIST. BAN-ALL-SHEDS HAS SHOWN HIS TRUE COLOURS WHICH ARE TO WIN AT ANY COST.

Well thats good Slogger and I would thank you for it but you can't have your cake and eat it, if we had the death penalty I would have to pay for my crime which could be the noose.

Wow, what an interesting debate. I can see how it became so enflamed with BAS's replies being so overtly pointed.
I can find no fault however with his moral standpoint, reasoning or judgement.
Not all things I believe should be left up to the majority in the country to determine the outcome, capital punishment being a prime example.

    Two points:

    1) My position, that the death penalty is morally wrong is not one that can be argued in order to change minds. There are no statistics to quote, no evidence to show. All there is is a belief that killing is wrong, and that wanting to kill is wrong, and that a society that kills is less civilised than one that does not.

People either agree, or not, and all I can do is to repeat my view, and make it clear to those who I think are uncivilised killers that there is at least one person in the world who finds their views totally unacceptable.

    2) There are 27054 registered users on this site. Imagine if 1 of them posted saying they were in favour of the death penalty, and 27053 replied with posts of utter condemnation. Do you think they'd get the message?

That is the message I want them to get. I'm sorry it's only me who's sending that message - I wish a few more people who agree with my position would be equally as virulent in their criticism of those who support the death penalty.

This is not some abstract debate for me in which I want to score debating points or win arguments - I want the DP supporters to be shouted at.

I want them to feel loathed.
