Cutting Chrome Basin Bottle trap

Need some advice...
... am fitting a new basin in the bathroom and am going to fit a chrome bottle trap and waste pipe to connect to a normal plastic waste pipe.

I haven't actually purchased the bottle trap yet but before I do how do these chrome pipes that connect from the bottle trap to the plastic waste pipe come when purchased? Does the pipe normally have a thread to connect to the plastic waste pipe or does it allow to connect to a push fit connector.

Reason I ask is that I strongly feel that i'm going to have to cut the chrome pipe as I don't have much space under the new basin.
