I need to cut an oval shape out of a roofing slate, it's to help my friend out with a crafts type project.

How would you go about this? I need it to end up with a natural jagged type edge so can't use an angle grinder :(

Use angle grinder to make smaller hole then chip away edges with a pointed hammer.

You can use an ordinary hammer to nibble the edges if you place it on something solid and don't let it overhang by more than half inch.
