cylindrical or square

Opinions please.

I am building a pool for a fountain (no fish etc) and i want to edge the pool with timber (to fit in with suroundings)

I was thinking if i use square timber the rain will sit on its top edge, but its easer for me to join.

I was then thinking of round poles, being round the rain will run off, but harder for me to join.

which would you do, and why?

square. wood will soak up water anyway. you can always put a slight fall on it anyway, but its not really an issue.

one vote for square then.

any more opinions.

I was also thinking round would look different

(its to go in front of my screening)

I think so but your choice really and depending on how big etc, I get fed up looking at square timber :) Is it possible to half lap with an overhang on all corners? There are many way of joining them but take a lot longer to do, I think it will be worth it just to see the outcome.
