Yes, it's faulty.
It is the compressor solenoid, probably the unit has been leaking gas and therefore is frosting up on normal setting, this is melting on swtichover to heat. Water from this is then shorting out the solenoid.
You need to mend the leak, which may not be economical. Also the compressor may have failed
