Hi i need some advise, i need to lay a solid wood or similar wood floor as a dance floor at a wedding venue i help manage. The size is approx 4x4 mtrs and the base is concrete. The floor covering is carpet tiles so the idea is to remove a 4x4 mtr area of tiles and lay a floor. Is this possible and how would i go about this, ive read some other posts but im still not sure as the floor is not framed by skirting. Colin

You could lay a "floating floor" an engineered floor that clicks or glues togther. The weight of it will keep it steady but you could screw a profile around the edge of the floor t be sure it doesn't move or become a trip hazzard. You can get angled profiles in wood or metal to keep it in place.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, if i use a profile around the edges does this allow for expansion. colin

Yes, all profiles allow for expansion, if it's a floating floor you should use DPM Underlay to reduce expansion but a floor of 4m x 4m won't expand much if at all if it is engineered. A solid floor will expand but a standard profile will still suffice.
