whats the difference between using plastering sand and the other option soft washed,sharp and lime for rendering.Have used plastering sand but got on better with soft,sharp mixture.

i usually use plastering sand for internal rendering (damp proofing). i use sharp sand on external rendering you can get a better finish and mixed with lime it will move with the structure reducing cracking.

plastering sand is usually just a 60/40 mix of soft and sharp.
