I have a 3x50w GU10 halogen light fitting in the lounge which has a dimmer switch fitted to switch it. Now for the second time the dimmer switch has failed- has no effect, lights won't turn off and the knob goes all loose. I.e it is kacked up inside!

What is causing this? the light fitting used to be installed in my room at my mums house where I used to live and was fed via a dimmer and never had issues and it was used alot more.

Just a cheap switch not man enough for the job? It is rated 500w.

Any ideas? Its lasted about two months before failing and not used all that much

is it a really cheap one? Sometimes if you pull the knob off :| there is a little nut that holds the dimmer module in place, this might need tightening up.

If there isn't / this doesn't fix it, throw it in the bin and buy a decent one
