dimmer switch to rum multiple lights

I have blown 2 dimmer switches because I have 12 spotlights set in the ceiling each rated at 50 watts.
Can I buy a bigger dimmer switch? or is it some other problem?

Most dimmer switches are rated at 300W max. You have 600W, so they burn out.

You can get larger dimming units - usually a 'black box' containing the electronics gets mounted somewhere out of site, and just a control knob goes where the lightswitch was. They are usually used in commercial premises - e.g. cinemas etc. Installing one would probably require a fair bit of re-wiring, and might be best left to an electrian.

Alternatively, it might be possible to split the 12 lights into two or more circuits, and use seperate domestic dimmers.
