dimmer switches and power consumption

I have three wall lights each has one , one hundred watt halogen lamps ( like the ones in outdoor flood lights )

now at full brightness i will be using 300 watts

when i dim them will i use less power and save some money !!!

Yes, you will, but not by as much as you think, its not a linear relationship, for example (and using very rough numbers), if you dimmed them to 50% brilliance then they might be consuming 75% of the power they would do on full brilliance.

You could consider re-lamping the fixtures with lower wattage lamps if available (or do as I do, and remove some of the lamps to achieve a comfortable light level)
