How do you do it? I just had a big clear out of old bank statements and hone bills and CC bills and insurance docs, solicitors letters etc, and now i'm wondering what to do with them all . . .

(Dont worry I aint daft, I have kept everything up to 1 year ago)

Shred or burn it !! If you are environmentally minded and want to save the earth, shred it,stick it in the bin and post a tenner through the council office letter box.

We shred ours and use it as nesting straw for our chickens, maybe you could shred and give it to someone who has rabbits, etc.?

Wot does it mattere...if they want u they get u..What have u to hide.. Tear it & bin it..Wrap it in my bunnies crap.THey r welcome

For Inland Revenue etc keep important papers at least for 22 months, not just 1 year.

Maried to the job ;-)
But off to the pub in 15 minutes: Manu U - Arsenal and want to have a proper seat.

Yep, same as most, shredded, then either aminal bedding or composted. There are companies who will do it for you, the shredding that is, but why bother paying them when you can get a shredder for £20 in H/B?

Shred it, I use my shreddings for packaging stuff that I sell on ebay!
As for keeping papers, it depends, if youre in business you need to keep them for 5 years

i wanted to do a new year clean out of my current business documents. so i phoned my accountants and asked about how long i needed to keep records. they told me inland revenue will go back as far as seven years, so keep seven years books or else!

Similar position, but I thought bo**ocks to it and shredded everything bar the last years financial statements.

7 years financial guff, have HMRC any idea how much space that takes up?

Odd, Im sure it was 5, oh well, 5,7 still far too much crap to keep !

if them nosey b*****ds at inland revenue and customs decide to do an audit on ones books then it could cost you a shed load of money to produce records that can be redeemed.
particularly if they use the law to force you to cough up.
