Dot and Dab

Hi all,
Just away to fix the 12.5mm plasterboard to my brick walls in bathroom. I was looking for a bit more advice on dot and dab.

1) What is a dot and what is a dab
2) How do you apply dot and dab
3) Is gripfill better than dot and dab
4) Once the boards are fixed to the wall with dot and dab, is it best then to add screws (if so, where? and how do you fit rawl plugs since you would be drilling through teh plasterboard.
