Hi all. My brother has an electrical fault which I wonder if you could advise on.

He lives in a first floor flat. When he walks through his hallway, more and more frequently the lighting circuit fuse goes, and he has to go to the fuse box and reset it. The fuse box is next to the landing near to where the area is that causes the problem. Just walking over this area seems to trigger it.

Where would you suggest I look for the problem?

Many thanks.

you should have posted this in the electrics forum.

the answer is under the floor, a cable has been incorectly installed and walking on it has worn out the insulation causing a short ciruit

But what I find confusing is, it's the lighting circuit.

Why would a lighting cable be running under the floor?

perhaps it was easier at the time, you wont know untill you lift a floor board and have a look.

and turn the MAIN electric switch off first , you don't know what you will find

Thanks.

Assuming I do find a wire with some worn out insulation, is it acceptable to insulate it by wrapping it in insulation tape, or should I replace the wire?

neither is acceptable, you have to find the CAUSE then change the cable
