I totally re-wired my house wiring / sockets / lighting and consumer unit about 4yrs ago.

I'm having an extension put onto my house (adding a utility, study, bedroom with en-suit).

Can I extend the ring main/lighting circuits to serve the extension - or do I have to install a second consumer unit with seperate circuits for the new area.

Thanks

It is fine to extend the ring main to accomodate your extension. However, I would check with the 16th Edition of the IEE wiring regs to determine the maximum length of cable and number of outlets for the ring. However, if the house and extension are not enormous then it should be fine.
