Hi. wonder if anyone can clue me up with an intermittent problem with my 1997 escort . Sometime the horn and sidelights don't work when this happens the indicators wont either but when i switch mainbeam they all work ok till the next time. Ive cleaned and put wd40 around the multiswitch/stalk pickup points of the collar of steering column and this works ok for a few months. Do i need a new multiswitch???
first time in this section couldnt see anything in search (honest)

I had the same problem with my escort van when i had it. Went to the local breakers and got a new stalk for £5, changed it, no problems after-
Not with the switch anyway!!

Ta Hitac, Though I am clueless about taking s/wheel off with airbag.Thing is it whent through mot last month horn wasnt working on way there but it was during test

You dont need to touch the steering wheel....

1) Remove the upper and lower shroud (trim just behing s/wheel)
2 screws in top trim, 4 in the bottom.

2) You will see a multiplug, carefully remove this, without pulling wires out of the plug!

3) Toward the rear of the switch youll find a single screw that retains the switch.

4) The unit should come out upwards with a bit of wiggeling.

Thanks for that Hitac; I didnt get round to doing anything as it was goin ok. but got stuk at pub  no lights  last night. so had a closer look tonight and your quite right (different to what poxy haynes books says  ) Strange though I took it off and sprayed wd40 inside (desperate ) and its working ok again now  Anyhow gave me the spur to get it sorted now, think scrapyard is answer, as its quite an item with all that hazard lights and wipers in one block bit different to me old marina van lol.
Cheers
John
