I've got a retaining garden wall, as far as I know it's about 100 years old.
I need to raise its height to screen the garden from the road. I could build a fence behind it but I'd rather build up the brick wall if at all possible.
It's about 3ft and I'd want the it just over 6ft.
It's all vertical, and other than some bits which need repointing, it seems in good condition.
Some questions I had:
1) It's only a single brick in depth. If I find matching bricks and a good brickie, could it be extended upwards, or will the weight be too much for the original foundations?
2) I've seen the building guide about using 2 or 3 brick depth for this height. Rather than thickening the wall, could we build columns in the inner side to strengthen it?
3) What sort of budget should I allow for this?
Thanks
